Happy Nurse’s Week!
I am so excited for the continuation of the Year of the Nurse and
Midwife! Who knew when this was decided for 2020 that we would have such a year of the
Nurse! As we move out of the pandemic, our importance continues to educate the public
on measures needed to “be normal”-whatever that will be moving forward! We want to wish
you a Happy Nurses Week and remind you of how important you are to the health of our
communities and world! We thank you for the work you do each and every day to ensure
excellence in healthcare education, research, and practice.
Updates from the nursing world:
The Future of Nursing 2020-2030 is out and there is a webinar from AACN on 5/18/21 if you are
interested: An Insider’s Look at 2020-2030 Future of Nursing Report: Charting a Path to Achieve Health Equity.

Our own Connie Miller, DNP, RNC-OB, CNE, University of Arizona, was on the Taskforce to
assist in the updates!
We had a fantastic Annual Membership meeting on 4/29/21 and shared the election results, giving
out 4 scholarships (2 undergraduate; 2 graduate), and engaged in an excellent CE offering on Next Gen Updates by another of our very own heroes, Karin Sherrill. Karin presented us with some incredible classroom activities to engage your students and assist them to increase their clinical judgment skills and critical thinking.
Election Results:
Catherine Mohammed, Ph.D. (c), MPhil, MN, RN was elected to the VP/President-Elect position.
Diann DeWitt, Ph.D., RN, CNE will assume the president role as of June 1st, 2021.
Melissa Ruiz, MSN, RN, CEN was appointed to the debut of our Diversity & Inclusion Chair.
Our goal is to broaden our professional organization across all boundaries of nursing practice.
As nurse educators, you play a critical role in developing future nurses who will reach all ends
of the earth!
National NLN News:
Lastly, please don’t forget to vote for the national BOD positions. An email would have been
sent to you for your vote. All of the biographies of the candidates are there for your review if
you have not voted before.
The NLN Summit will be in person this year yet you can attend virtually as well.
2021 NLN Education Summit: Leading and Teaching Beyond Resilience, Washington, D.C,
September 23-25. Plan to attend so you can learn how the league’s exceptional past has served as
the foundation for its innovative present — pointing the way toward a transformative future
shaped by the NLN’s unwavering dedication and commitment to excellence in nursing
education. Hope you will consider attending-I know I love these conferences and always come
away with so much new knowledge!
Until next time, have a Happy Nurses Week and enjoy your families and loved ones,
Catherine
