NLN Makes an Impact on Congressional Legislation The NLN has recently signed on to support two important bills in Congress that would help millions of Americans: the Mothers and Offspring Mortality and Morbidity Awareness (MOMMA) Act and the Mainstreaming Addiction Treatment (MAT) Act. The MOMMA Act seeks to reduce America’s rising maternal and infant mortality rate, especially for moms and babies of color who are significantly more likely to die during or shortly after pregnancy. The MAT Act would vastly increase access to life-saving addiction medicine by eliminating a duplicative bureaucratic hurdle, known as the "x-waiver," currently blocking millions of highly-trained health professionals from prescribing buprenorphine to their patients.
NLN President & CEO Named to National Academy of Medicine Nominating Committee NLN President and CEO Dr. Beverly Malone has been honored with the selection to serve as a member of the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) Nominating Committee, which this year will oversee the preparation of candidate slates for both the NAM Council and the Home Secretary elections. After the nomination period closes, the Nominating Committee will develop a priority-ranked list of candidates for Home Secretary and At-large councilor for discussion with the NAM Council. Taking Council feedback into account, the Nominating Committee then prepares a provisional slate of candidates, which is presented to, and approved by, the Council. NAM Members may nominate more than one individual. Learn More
