Modern Healthcare Names NLN President & CEO Dr. Beverly Malone to 2021 Women Leaders’ Luminaries
NLN President and CEO Dr. Beverly Malone is one of the elite women in health care named a 2021 Modern Healthcare Luminary, a special awards category that recognizes health care executives of distinction from its ranking of Top 25 Women Leaders in Healthcare. Join the 2021 National Nursing Research Roundtable, March 4-5
Join the National Institute of Nursing Research and the Western Institute of Nursing on March 4-5 for the 2021 National Nursing Research Roundtable. The virtual meeting, titled “Nursing Research of the Future: Using Clinical Big Data to Explore Health Inequities and Social Determinants of Health,” will bring together individuals representing member organizations to learn about recent research findings aimed at strengthening nursing practice and improving client outcomes. NLN & Questionmark Facilitate Nurse Training during COVID-19 Pandemic
A new partnership between the NLN and Questionmark, the NLN’s Assessment Services provider, has enabled nursing students at all levels of higher education to continue their educational testing uninterrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic. Amid the challenges of social distancing, hand-washing, mask-wearing and other measures to slow the transmission of the virus, nursing education programs have successfully utilized the League’s and Questionmark’s suite of online test prep, assessment tools and exams, thus avoiding the risks of in-person evaluation and administration. Read More

Applications to Nursing Schools Rose during the Pandemic
As the pandemic was starting to overwhelm hospitals last year, some nursing school officials feared that the crisis would deter prospective applicants from pursuing nursing careers. But preliminary enrollment data from 2020 shows the opposite to be true: Baccalaureate nursing program enrollment rose by 6 percent last year. Many nursing programs made the transition to training students virtually and were able to increase capacity, according to Dr. Malone. “It was like a war call,” she said, referring to the pandemic. “You see what’s going on and you say, ‘I’m going to help.’” Read More

Hospitals Asked to Pay Millions Due to Government Mistake
About 120 hospital-based nursing schools nationwide being asked to refund overpayments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services that occurred between 2002 and 2018. A miscalculation by CMS caused the overpayments. The hospitals say they shouldn’t have to pay for the government’s error, especially now during the COVID-19 pandemic when they are struggling financially and nursing staffs are stretched thin. Be on High Alert for Spear Phishing Scams
Scammers are targeting nurses by sending them official looking letters from nursing regulatory bodies (NRBs) or other state/federal agencies. These scammers know the business of the NRBs and are connecting with the nurses using messaging like, “Your license is suspended or will be revoked unless you connect back with us and transfer funds to fulfill the financial obligation related to this inquiry…” Learn How to Protect Yourself
