Happy Thanksgiving, colleagues. Tomorrow is the big day, and our opportunity to forge new traditions and give thanks for what is truly important. If your dinner companions are virtual, embrace them. We are being asked not to travel this year, and by celebrating via video you are doing the right thing. Let’s all follow safety guidelines and look to a brighter future together.

During this unusual Thanksgiving 2020, the eyes of the world are on health care and on health care personnel and leadership. The NLN mission, to advance excellence in nursing education, has never been more important. And it has never been more important to work together to shape our future.

One way you can do this is by sharing a new public service announcement by NursesEverywhere, "Thank a Nurse, Wear a Mask." I was honored to provide the voiceover for this vital message encouraging everyone to wear a mask to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

Nominate Yourself as a Leader

Each year at this time we call for nominations for a number of open leadership positions. We seek individuals experienced in nursing policy, health, and higher education with expertise in public and private approaches to creative systems of care delivery and education, and we call on you to put your name forward. This year open positions include chair-elect and two governors at large as well as two NLN Certification Commissioners and two members of the NLN Nominations Committee.

DATES & DEADLINES

Be part of NLN leadership as we work to build a strong and diverse nursing workforce to advance the health of our nation and the global community. Are you ready to lead? The deadline for submissions is January 21, 2021.

Honor Your Mentor

There is something else I hope you will do this Thanksgiving. Please think about those who mentored you on your journey as a nurse and educator and make a donation to the NLN Foundation for Nursing Education in their names. The funds you donate will be used for scholarships for nurse educators and to support research that advances the scholarship of nursing education. What better way is there to honor others?
And join us on our 5K run or walk, won’t you? Register for NLN Fit for Future and complete your run or walk by December 6. I can feel the energy already. Again, the funds we raise will support scholarships and nursing education research. Now, please take a minute to view a brief video that will tell you about the NLN Foundation and how you can help on #GivingTuesday and every day to advance excellence in nursing education and dare to lead us to a brighter future.

RECENT NEWS

A final thought. Be sure to give warm thoughts and food to those in need. I understand that food lines are longer this year than ever before. Let’s make this a happy, healthy, and safe Thanksgiving for all. Let’s make this a Thanksgiving to remember.
All the best,
